ABOUT THE SCHOOL GARDEN PROGRAM
The School Garden Program allow students from participating schools in San Diego County to be part of the community building and food growth education process. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of environmental sustainability and the history of cultural agriculture. Preparation time, material delivery, transportation of all equipment to school site, set up, break down weekly sessions with our garden facilitators. Our goal is to equip young people with the confidence and tools to make better decisions, develop a passion for the outdoors, and build a community of support.

Garden 31 has partnered with Vista Unified School District to institute a high school program that has introduced students from underserved communities to sustainable agricultural practices while also learning about how to be engaged, contributing members to their communities and society.

We've partnered with the “Roots of Justice” career education program at MiraCosta College that introduces formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted college students to sustainable agriculture and creates a mentoring program for transitional high schoolers, connecting them to educational opportunities through the California Community College system.

Through our school garden programming, we are increasing access to education and skill-building that meets agricultural workforce needs and prepares system-impacted individuals and our region's most vulnerable communities to participate in localizing our food system in San Diego
